About the Hilda Evans House
In May 2021, Union Church Boston voted to convert our parsonage into an active mission site — named the Hilda Evans House. We are partnering with Boston University School of Theology in order to deploy the parsonage to support candidates for ordained ministry. We are also excited to provide a safe space for African and African American students, undergirded by our core values of unconditional love, inclusion and justice.
The House is named after the late Hilda Evans who was a Union elder who advocated for intentional engagement of the church in the community, playing a pivotal role in helping Union connect deeply with our LGBTQ+ neighbors in the South End of Boston.
The inaugural year of this ministry is funded through a grant from the United Methodist Foundation of New England (rent scholarship) and the generosity of members and friends of Union Church Boston.
